KIEV, October 8. The issues of diversification of gas supplies to Ukraine and the possible participation of Kiev and Astana within the project “Economic zone of silk road” was discussed by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov during the official visit of the Ukrainian head of state in Astana. This was announced Thursday in a press-service of the Ukrainian President.
“The President of Ukraine and Prime Minister of Kazakhstan discussed the issues of diversification of gas supplies to Ukraine. Special attention was paid to development of transport infrastructure for the transport of goods from Asia to Europe via Kazakhstan and Ukraine in the framework of the initiative “Economic zone silk road” on the route of Western China – Western Europe”, – stated in the message.

In addition, the parties discussed a number of infrastructure projects, which are open to the participation of Ukrainian producers. In particular, projects in construction, engineering, oil and gas and agricultural industries.
On Friday, the Ukrainian colleague in his residence welcomed by the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. As have informed in its press-service, it is planned that the heads of state “will discuss the most topical issues of bilateral relations, including trade and economic cooperation”. The talks also “expected to consider the priority areas of cooperation in the coal industry, the transport and logistics sector, agriculture and other areas”.
In addition, it is expected that Nazarbayev and Poroshenko “will exchange opinions on key aspects of the international agenda, including on the implementation of the Minsk agreements”.
In the afternoon, both presidents will take part in the Kazakhstani-Ukrainian business forum, which will be held in the Palace of independence.
According to the state statistics service of Ukraine, in the first six months of 2015, total trade of Ukraine with the Republic of Kazakhstan amounted to $544,1 million (decreased compared to the same period in 2014).
“Economic zone of silk road” (a New “silk road”) – the project of creation of transport, energy and trade corridor between Central Asia, South Asia and Europe. The project idea was put forward by Chinese President XI Jinping during his visit to Kazakhstan in September 2013. Currently the exact route that will be a new “silk road”, is not fully developed.
