Texas authorities have filed a lawsuit against Volkswagen for alleged violation of environmental norms

The authorities of the state of Texas filed on Thursday a lawsuit against the American branch of German automaker Volkswagen, accusing the company of fraud and violation of the legislation on the control of exhaust gases. The complaint filed Thursday in Federal court in Travis County.

As declared in Prosecutor’s office, of the action of Volkswagen violated state laws on consumer protection and represent a case of unfair competition, is prohibited in Texas. In this regard, the state asked the court to consider the possibility of imposing on the giant monetary penalty and levy of compensation. What amounts can be discussed, it is not yet clear.

“For many years, Volkswagen intentionally introduced customers to the confusion about the compatibility of their vehicles sold in Texas, environmental standards, – noted in Prosecutor’s office. – When a company intentionally uses the public trust for personal gain, she should be punished”.

Volkswagen was at the center of a scandal after the discovery in the car group with diesel engines software that allows you to bypass strict ecological standards of the USA. The investigation into the auto giant launched in several countries in Europe and Asia. As noted in the statement by Volkswagen, the problem of falsifying data environmental tests on the content of harmful substances in exhaust gases of vehicles affected to 11 million cars worldwide.
