NIZHNY NOVGOROD, October 8. The former head of Nizhny Novgorod Oleg Sorokin, who yesterday resigned, said that he left the post because of disagreements with the Governor on privatization of the largest city enterprises. He said Thursday in an address to the inhabitants of Nizhni-Novgorod, which was circulated by his press service.
“Unfortunately, after five years of working together with the Governor of Nizhny Novgorod region Valery Shantsev, in recent months there has been serious differences that were associated with my assessment of the activities of the former head of the city administration Oleg Kondrashov and the Governor’s plans for privatization of major municipal enterprises providing activity of Nizhny Novgorod – “the water canal” and “Teploenergo”, – said Sorokin. He noted that his position was supported by the deputies, but did not find understanding in the regional government.
“My attempts to resist withdrawal from the city Treasury the largest objects of municipal property (OJSC “Nizhny Novgorod Vodokanal” and JSC “Teploenergo”) an aggregate value of over 30 billion rubles has resulted to the halting of major urban projects that depend on financing of the regional center. I believe that such political blackmail is unacceptable, because suffer from this exclusively the residents of Nizhny Novgorod”, – said the ex – mayor.
According to him, in recent months, the city had frozen the construction of kindergartens and recreation centres, stopped the program of wave resettlement of inhabitants of shabby Fund. “Since the beginning of the disagreements with the Governor of the city was completely deprived of the support of the regional budget on these programs,” said Sorokin.
The ex-mayor noted that the nearest five years are fundamentally important for Nizhny Novgorod, in view of the upcoming biggest event – the FIFA world Cup in 2018, the construction of high speed railway Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan and the forthcoming 800th anniversary of Nizhny Novgorod. These events were held for the maximum benefit of Nizhniy Novgorod, need consolidation of efforts of all levels of government, and conditions disagreements with the Governor that’s impossible, so he resigned.
In a press-service of the Governor of the statements of Sorokin has not yet commented.
