U.S. military aid will frustrate the Minsk process on the settlement in the Donbass, according to the state Duma

MOSCOW, October 8. The provision of US military aid Ukraine will undermine the Minsk process and disrupt fragile settlement in the Donbass. This was stated by the Chairman of the Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots Leonid Slutsky.

“The law if it is signed by the U.S. President Barack Obama, of course has a negative impact on the whole mechanism of political settlement in the Donbas, who with great difficulty were worked out by leaders of “Norman Quartet”, Slutsky stressed. According to him, such decision of the us Congress once again show the world “who is who”. “It is obvious that the United States does not need peace in Ukraine. It is much cheaper to maintain instability and a hotbed of tension near Russian borders,” – said the head of the Committee.

A similar view is shared by first Deputy Chairman of the house Committee on international Affairs Leonid Kalashnikov. “No wonder the US started all this bull,” said he. The Kalashnikov has expressed the fear that with the case of American weapons falling into the hands of nationalist groups who once again blow up the situation in Ukraine. “Despite the difference between the Ukrainian and the middle East conflict is all on the same tracing paper. The Americans are arming the radicals, and then arise of ISIS and other extremist and terrorist groups that are difficult to uproot. And Ukraine”, – said the Deputy.

The Senate on Thursday passed a bill on defense spending in the 2016 financial year. It includes provisions relating to the provision of military assistance to Ukraine. The Pentagon chief Ashton Carter has the right in coordination with U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry to use $ 300 million for the provision of Kiev “appropriate assistance in the field of security and intelligence”. This refers to the transfer of Ukraine “intelligence information… in real time” or close to it and the so-called “lethal assistance”, i.e. deliveries of anti-tank weapons, mortars, systems, served in combat calculation/crew, and ammunition, grenade launchers, small arms.

Along with this, Kiev can be passed counter-mortar radars, “tactical unmanned system surveillance from the air”, secure communications and electronic warfare. Finally, from the aforesaid amount allowed to spend money on training “of the armed forces and other security forces of the government of Ukraine”.

Now the bill will be forwarded for consideration to the President of the United States.
