Fallon promises to increase assistance to Ukraine in the next financial year

The British defence Secretary Michael Fallon also confirmed plans announced on the eve of Britain within NATO to send a contingent to the Baltic States.

LONDON, 9 Oct. The British defence Secretary Michael Fallon has promised next year to increase assistance to Ukraine.

“We will increase our support for Ukraine in the next financial year,” said Fallon at the press conference on results of negotiations with the U.S. Department of defense.

The Minister also confirmed plans announced on the eve of Britain within NATO to send a contingent to the Baltic States.

Earlier, Fallon announced that the UK implements a programme of assistance to the armed forces of Ukraine, providing training to an additional number of Ukrainian military personnel and providing additional non-lethal military equipment.

In August, British experts have conducted training courses for about 250 Ukrainian military. With March in the framework of the existing training programs from the British instructors have been trained 650 Ukrainian military, reported the Ministry of defense.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko also previously reported that the country supplied armored vehicles from the USA and the UK, Kiev equips them with precision weapons. Machines go on arming the Ukrainian military.

The head of the defense Ministry of Ukraine also said that Kyiv is not against supplies of lethal weapons from the UK, if such an agreement is reached.

Earlier the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valeriy Chaly said that Ukraine is actively receiving weapons, including lethal, more than from ten countries of the West.

The Ukrainian authorities in April last year launched a military operation against the self-proclaimed LNR and DND. According to the United Nations, victims of the conflict began more than 8 thousand people. The settlement of the situation in the Donbas region is discussed, including during meetings in Minsk of the contact group, which since last September has already received three documents governing the steps to de-escalate the conflict.

From 1 September in the Donbass entered into force another truce, both parties and observers state that it is observed. At the end of September an agreement was signed on the withdrawal of weapons with a caliber less than 100 mm and tanks from the frontline.

This process will be gradual. The authorities LNR have started to withdraw arms 3 October, 5 October, the security forces have also begun to take vehicles in the Luhansk region. Power DND stated that they intend to begin the diversion of arms during the second half of October.
