MOSCOW, 10 Oct. The Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov at the meeting with OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier on Monday will raise the issue of continuing reform of the organization to correct “thematic and geographical imbalances” in its work, according to the comments of the Department of information and press of the Russian foreign Ministry.
Earlier it was reported that the OSCE Secretary General on Monday to visit Moscow, where he will hold consultations with Lavrov and also with the leadership of the CSTO.
“In General, Russia is in favour of increasing the OSCE’s role in international Affairs, the strengthening of its inter-state character and ensuring sovereign equality of participating States and the inviolability of the rule of consensus when making decisions. From the Russian side raised the issue of continuing the OSCE reform, in order to correct geographical and thematic imbalances in its work”, — stated in the message of the foreign Ministry.
In addition, the Russian side plans to discuss with the OSCE Secretary General the efficiency of its field missions and institutions — Bureau for democratic institutions and human rights (ODIHR), high Commissioner on national minorities (HCNM) and the representative on freedom of the media. As noted in the commentary of the MFA, the activities of these institutions “raises many questions”. As an example, the MFA cites the report of the ODIHR and the HCNM on the situation of human rights in Crimea, which, according to the Ministry, “was prepared at a low professional level and without the direct orders of the legislative bodies of the OSCE.”
