SCO Secretary-General: elections in Belarus were held with utmost respect to the observers

MINSK, 11 October. In Belarus election campaign on presidential elections of the country held in the highest respect for the observers. This opinion was expressed by the head of mission of the Shanghai cooperation organization (SCO) on elections in the Republic of the SCO Secretary-General Dmitry Mezentsev.

“We communicated with observers from various parties, political structures, associations, trade unions, the Belarusian Helsinki Committee. There were questions, but the tone of the conversation with him also confirms that the elections were held openly, in the mode the utmost respect for the observers,” he said.

Mezentsev said that the SCO mission for the first time takes part in monitoring the presidential elections in Belarus and arrived at the invitation of the Central election Commission. “We visited various regions of Belarus. Elections were held in a very relaxed atmosphere, we did not observe any disturbance of public order”, – said Mezentsev. According to him, observers of the SCO “carefully tracked, how to comply with the requirements of the electoral legislation”. He noted that the Belarusian election legislation “it is possible to ensure equal rights of citizens to exercise their civic duty”.

Referring to personal impressions from visits to the sites, Mezentsev noted that they were in very good condition, with the members of the electoral commissions was friendly.

“This is a special day for Belarus, which is building its way and is actively building its relations in the framework of the Union state, the Eurasian economic Union , is now entering a new level of relations with the SCO,” – said Mezentsev.
