Ford started production of cars with Russian engines

The Assembly line Ford Sollers plant in Naberezhnye Chelny (Tatarstan) came down the first car equipped with an engine manufactured in Russia, released on a new engine plant in Elabuga. This was announced on Thursday, TASS Vice-President on public relations “Ford-Sollers” Elizaveta Novikova. Investments in the project amounted to $275 million.

“The first Ford car with the Russian engine was a new Ford Fiesta, the cheapest car of Ford brand in Russia. Cars with Russian engines will go on sale by the end of this or beginning of next year,” said Novikov.

Engine plant in Yelabuga was officially launched in early September 2015. According to the company, at the first stage its capacity will be 105 thousand engines a year, further it can be increased to 200 thousand. The plant is equipped to manufacture engines of 1.6 liters (capacity of 85, 105 and 125 HP) They are supposed to be more than 30% produced in Russia of Ford vehicles, including Fiesta, Focus and EcoSport.

Ford Sollers – a joint venture of Ford Motor Company and JSC “Sollers” c equal participation of both parties. Owns three production sites in Vsevolozhsk (Leningrad region), Naberezhnye Chelny and Elabuga in the Special economic zone “Alabuga”.
