In the state Duma introduced a project empowering the importation of grapes

For the development of viticulture and winemaking in Russia it is necessary to purchase and plant seedlings of grapes modern clones of international varieties of the highest quality, according to the Deputy of the state Duma from “United Russia” Victor Zvagelsky.

MOSCOW, 16 Oct. The Deputy of the state Duma from “United Russia” Victor Zvagelsky has introduced to the state Duma a bill that would expand the importation of grapes that is not included in the state register, according to the database of the lower house of Parliament.

Changes to the law on seed production. Under this act, to import only those varieties which are registered in the state register of breeding achievements. “And for the development of viticulture and winemaking in Russia it is necessary to purchase and plant seedlings of grapes modern clones of international varieties of the highest quality,” says Zvagelsky.

Many popular international grape varieties in the state register not recorded, including those who historically have cultivated and continue to be cultivated in many farms, emphasizes the Deputy. This happened due to the fact that in recent years the study of varieties, regionalization and further registration in the above register were “not efficient enough”.

Therefore, the amendments to the law on seed production, it is proposed not to extend the validity of the document on the relations connected with the use of grapes to produce products not for the purpose of reproduction. That is, the changes will remove barriers to the import into the Russian Federation of high-quality certified planting material of grapes.

This will greatly improve the variety grown in the country of grapes and to increase the competitiveness of Russian wines on the domestic and international markets, and strengthen the ability of winemakers to import substitution of imported products, I am sure Zvagelsky.
