The VILLAGE of BURABAY /Kazakhstan/, October 16. Strengthening border security within the CIS is planned to be implemented on the basis of existing arrangements and forces. This was stated to journalists the President’s press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the announced at the Commonwealth summit measures.
“First of all, of course, we are talking about existing mechanisms of cooperation, which now provide an excellent opportunity and they are flexible enough to provide for the establishment of such a force,” – said the representative of the Kremlin.
“I can’t tell yet”, – said Peskov on a question, whether there are plans to strengthen the Russian element of those forces.
Earlier in the meeting of the Council of heads of CIS States, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the situation in Afghanistan is close to critical and the Commonwealth countries need to be prepared “to respond coherently” to the plans of terrorists to infiltrate Central Asia. According to him, “put a reliable barrier on the external frontiers” of the CIS will help, in particular, the implementation of prepared programme of cooperation in strengthening border security for 2016-2020. “It provides the possibility of formation of group of border and other agencies of the CIS countries to resolve crises at the border”, – said the Russian leader.
