Matvienko has proposed to hold a session of the inter-Parliamentary Union in 2017 in Russia


GENEVA, October 17. The speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko at the meeting with the leadership of the inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has offered to host one of the sessions of the organization in Russia.

“We have prepared our official appeal to you one of the sessions of the IPU Assembly to be held in the Russian Federation”, – she declared. The speaker said that the earliest time at which the event is 2017. Matvienko expressed confidence that the meeting will be held “at the highest level”. “We ensure the involvement of all parliamentarians,” she said.

The head of the Federation Council gave the official address of the Russian side, Secretary General of the IPU Martin Chungong. “I hope you will consider it positively,” added the Senator.

Matviyenko also expressed regret that are unable to participate in the activities of the IPU in new York in September this year because of the decision of the US authorities to grant her a visa with restrictions.
