GENEVA, 17 Oct. The Federation Council speaker Valentina Matvienko proposes to carry out the Assembly of the inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in 2017 in Russia.

“We have prepared a formal appeal to 2017 proposed to hold a meeting of Assembly in Russia,” she said on Saturday at a meeting with the leadership of the Union on the eve of the 133rd Assembly of the organization.

“Guarantee its implementation at the highest level with the participation of all members of Parliament”, — said the Senator.

At the meeting with the IPU President Saber Chowdhury and Secretary General of the organization Martin Chungong Matvienko expressed regrets that are unable to participate in the activities of the Union in September of the current year in the United States. American authorities granted to the speaker “truncated visa” in this connection, the Russian delegation refused to go.

Matviyenko stressed that the inability to participate in the meetings of the IPU was not her fault. “We will not accept any sanctions, any restrictions to inter-parliamentary dialogue,” she said. The Senator stressed that such decisions violate the rights and freedoms of parliamentarians.

She thanked the leadership of the organization for the intention to appeal to the IPU Council a statement on inadmissibility of sanctions against parliamentarians.

“The Russian delegation has taken the initiative against holding international meetings in countries that do not guarantee the participation of all MPs and restrict their activity”, — said Matvienko.
