Kosachev was elected a member of the Executive Committee of the inter-Parliamentary Union


According to a member of the Federation Council Committee on social policy Valentina Petrenko, who took part in the meeting of the Chairpersons of the geopolitical groups and the presidents of the standing committees of the IPU, Kosachev candidacy was supported by the representatives of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova.

MOSCOW, 18 Oct. The head of the international Committee of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev was elected a member of the Executive Committee of the inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) from the Eurasian geopolitical groups, said the Chairman of the group of Valentina Petrenko.

Member of the Federation Council Committee on social policy Valentina Petrenko took part in the meeting of the Chairpersons of the geopolitical groups and the presidents of the standing committees of the IPU.

“The candidacy of Konstantin Kosachev, suggested by our delegation, supported by the representatives of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, other members of the group. Everyone knows him as a true professional,” said Petrenko.

Earlier, the speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko stated that in the Executive Committee of the organization on behalf of the group “Eurasia” may take the chair of the international Committee of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev.

Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) is the oldest international parliamentary organization founded in 1889. Now has 166 member countries, 10 international parliamentary organisations which are associate members. The headquarters is located in Geneva. The highest body is the IPU Assembly, which traditionally meets twice a year (spring and autumn). One of them is held in Geneva, the second in one of the countries-participants of the Union.
