Zakharova: Russia launched an operation in Syria in order to divert attention from Ukraine

MOSCOW, 18 October. Russia launched a military operation in Syria to divert attention from the topic of Ukraine and not to someone to compete. This was announced on Sunday, the official representative of the Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on the TV channel “Russia 1”.

“This populist reasoning, the diplomat said. – It is not a question of any rivalry, it’s not the closing theme of Ukraine or care in some other realities”.

According to her, Russia intervened in the Syrian conflict at the stage of his neglect, when the US for 4.5 years not only could not solve it, but has aggravated. “And then we applied the model that we believe is right based on international law”, – said Zakharov.

Foreign Ministry spokesman reminded that the concept of Russia consists of two components: “the fight against Isil (is prohibited in the Russian Federation terrorist group “Islamic state” – approx.), “Dzhebhat EN-nusra and those who use terrorist methods” and “consolidation of efforts of all who are engaged in the Syrian settlement to promote the political process in Syria”.

“We attribute the rivalry with the United States: the second superpower, and so on. The question is that at some point you need to recognize the fallacy of their actions, not because someone wants us to, but because it is a reality, – the diplomat noted, – it seems to Me that the problem with Washington is that they climbed the Olympus, I can’t seem to recognize the fallacy of the path that have chosen in relation to the Syrian conflict”.

However, Zakharova said that the U.S. began to change its position. “Over the years the concept has changed for them, ISIS became the problem number one,” she said.

“We have always been open and we continue to be open”, – said Zakharov.
