Ivanov: the decision about the operation in Syria was taken without haste

MOSCOW, October 19. The decision to start operations of the Russian Armed forces in Syria was taken without haste, finally the “pros” and “cons” were weighed late in the evening on 29 September – the day before the first strikes on the terrorists. In an interview, said the head of the Russian presidential administration Sergei Ivanov.

“As for the mechanism of making decision about sending of the Russian air group and, as said before, a limited military contingent on the base near Latakia, there was no spontaneity or haste, – said the head of the Kremlin administration. – All actions are pre-thought out, carefully calculated and consistent with the Supreme commander”.

According to Ivanov, “the final stage of discussion, the operations in Syria with the participation of our military was at a meeting of the Russian security Council late on the evening of 29 September.” “We again weighed the “pros” and “cons”, pros and cons. Only after that came the President’s address to the Federation Council, the text of which I brought early the next morning to the building on Bolshaya Dmitrovka”, – said the Agency interlocutor.

Now its not a secret, said the representative of the Kremlin, “that combat aircraft and some of the special armed forces were sent in advance in Syria”. According to him, this is a legitimate “standard international practice”. Ivanov acknowledged that to a certain point in the Russian Federation information about such movements did not comment, “but let’s be realistic: understand that the transfer of several dozen aircraft will not hide, from space you can see everything”.

The head of the presidential administration of the Russian Federation has denied messages of the Western media with reference to anonymous sources in the Kremlin that allegedly he, along with defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and head of the security Council Nikolai Patrushev persuaded the President to launch an operation ATT of the Russian Federation in the SAR. “As they say, thanks for the compliment, in good company, I was determined”, – with irony said Ivanov, stressing that a serious comment on these “leaks” difficult”. “Information from unnamed sources unreliable. It was not so”, he concluded.
