Consultations with Damascus on the issue of creating a free trade zone between the EEU and Syria took place in July. The head of Minpromtorg Denis Manturov declared that collaboration with Damascus would continue after settlement of all political and economic problems.
MOSCOW, 20 Oct. The Russian Federation has no objection to the creation of a free trade area (FTA) between the EEC and Syria, told reporters the Minister of industry and trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov.
“We don’t really mind, support such cooperation with Syria. Ready to work together with other members of the EEU. I think we need to wait for the settlement of all political and economic problems in this country to continue on a new platform this cooperation”, — said Manturov on the sidelines of the Ministerial meeting of the BRICS countries.
In July this year, the EEC was informed that he held consultations with Damascus on the issue of creating a free trade zone between the EEU and Syria. It was noted that the EEU countries have a positive attitude towards this feature and will start discussions after the stabilization of the political situation in the country.
In early October, the Minister for trade of the EEC Andrey Slepnev has informed that the Commission has not yet negotiating with Damascus about the creation of a free trade zone between the EEU and Syria. According to him, on the stabilization in Syria now to speak early, however the EEC in the near future is going to hold a series of meetings to discuss possible formats of trade interaction.
