The head of Abkhazia has accused its predecessors of squandering aid from Russia

Moscow. October 21. The President of Abkhazia Raul Khajimba believes that a significant portion of financial assistance received from Russia in past years has been misused.

“Those who had access to these resources, have improved their personal well-being. However, the majority of our population still remains in a difficult financial condition,” said the head of the Republic on Tuesday on air of the Abkhazian state television.

According to the President of Abkhazia, “aid flows must be used efficiently, fairly, pointed toward the rehabilitation of the Abkhaz economy”.

Noting that “in Russia and around it today is a complicated situation due to certain circumstances”, the head of the Republic has recognized that it has an impact on the economic situation of Abkhazia.

Thus, according to Khajimba, “this year convincingly showed that Abkhazia is a self-sufficient state and could develop their own opportunities.”

He recalled that since 2009, the Abkhazia received support from Russia on two fronts: “the first area covers the salaries of law enforcement agencies, workers of culture, healthcare and education. The second direction involves the development of the economic sphere”.

“This year we have not received the assistance intended for the development of the economy. For this reason, had some problems with the implementation of the budget, but despite this, we were able to exceed the previous year tax receipts in the budget of 500 million rubles to pay wages and pensions. Demonstrated an improvement in the salaries of employees of courts and Prosecutor’s offices”,- said the President of the Republic.

Khajimba also said that “work is under way to increase almost twice the revenue side of the budget for next year”.
