The Minister called two whales of the Internet economy of the Russian Federation

MOSCOW, October 21. The Minister of communications and mass communications of the Russian Federation Nikolay Nikiforov believes that the development of “mail of Russia” and “Rostelecom” for the construction of fiber-optic communication lines (FOCL) to small human settlements is the basis for the development of the Internet economy in Russia. This opinion he expressed in the framework of Russian Interactive Week 2015.

“On the one hand – working “Mail of Russia” as a distribution network, with the other fiber practically to each settlement. These are the two whales of the Russian Internet economy. On this basis it is possible to build everything else, including advanced services of mobile communication”, – he said.

According to the Minister, the state still is one of the largest infrastructure investors in the development of basic Internet infrastructure. “Today our country, despite the current economic situation, accelerating the largest project on constructing fiber-optic communication lines,” said Nikiforov. He recalled that thanks to this project for several years to the Internet will be still about 37 million people in small towns and villages. “We now have more than 60% of the population connected to the Internet”, – noted the Minister.

The second infrastructure project is the modernization of the network of branches of “Mail of Russia”, which is very important for the development of e-Commerce.
