Gref: Sberbank does not exclude the possibility of going out of business in a number of European countries in the future

LONDON, October 22. Sberbank does not exclude the possibility of going out of business in a number of European countries in the future. This opinion was expressed at the meeting with investors in London the President of Sberbank German Gref, answering the question about the development of Sberbank’s international strategy.

“We became less aggressive with our international business and trying to optimize it. Sanctions and geopolitical situation affected our strategy of international growth, particularly in Europe. Now we are trying to reconsider our European strategy,” said Gref.

According to him, Sberbank will remain in Europe, but will develop a digital banking. “We launched last year, the digital platform of taking deposits in Germany and attracted a lot of funds in the European markets that the Bank was working on its own funding,” – said Gref.

He stressed that the efforts of Sberbank’s subsidiary banks in Europe will focus on strengthening the development on digital platforms, on the reduction of offices and possibly at the exit from a number of countries.
