MOSCOW, October 22. Russian aircraft attacked the bridge over the Euphrates river in Syria, cutting off the supply of fighters of the “Islamic state” (IG) from Iraq, told journalists the head of the main operations Directorate of the Russian General staff Colonel-General Andrey Kartapolov.
“The core of the logistics chain was a bridge over the Euphrates river in the Deir ez-Zor. Today the Russian pilots on this site was applied a surgical strike, in which the bridge became unsuitable for further use by terrorists for their own purposes,” – said Kartapolov.
According to him, the supply route for the militants banned in Russia organization “Islamic state” was opened by Russian drones. “I want to emphasize that it is under attack in the area, which, according to our American partners, is under full control of formations of ISIL (formerly ISIS – ed.)”, – said Kartapolov.
He stressed that due to this strike the Syrian military, more than a year was surrounded by in the region of Deir – ez-Zor, attacked and repulsed the militants a foothold.
Earlier official representative of the defense Ministry major General Igor Konashenkov said that over the past day Russian aircraft in Syria made 53 sorties, attacking 72 of the object of the terrorists in the provinces of Hama, Idlib, Latakia, Damascus, Aleppo and Deir-ez-Zor.
