The Russian foreign Ministry: Russia considers biased report of U.S. state Department on religious freedoms


MOSCOW, October 21. Russia considers unfair and biased recently published annual report by the U.S. state Department on the situation of religious freedoms in the world. As have informed in the Russian foreign Ministry, the text of this document was sent on Tuesday, the Counsellor for political Affairs of the U.S. Embassy Anthony Godfrey authorized the Russian foreign Ministry on issues of human rights, democracy and the rule of law Konstantin Dolgova.

“Dolgov confirmed that the Russian assessment of this document as rife with flaws and “white spots”, – said the Ministry. In particular, it ignored the true cause and extent of persecution against Christians in several countries of the Middle East and North Africa, numerous cases of attacks, including with the complicity of the Ukrainian militia, on the temples of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine.”

“Concerning the “Russian” section of the report, he was diagnosed with a bias the analysis are indicated on the inadmissibility of ignoring active consistent work in Russia in order to consolidate inter-confessional peace and accord”, – stated in the message of the Russian foreign Ministry.

From the Russian side were again raised questions about the inadmissibility of extraterritorial application of American laws against Russian citizens with their arrests in third countries with subsequent extradition, stressed the importance of the adoption by the U.S. authorities long-overdue practical steps to address accumulated problems in the sphere of ensuring the rights and legitimate interests of Russian children adopted by American citizens.
