Medvedev: some regions allow interruptions in the supply of drugs for HIV


GORKI, October 23. A number of regions of the country allow for interruptions in the supply of drugs and test kits for HIV, which endangers the lives of not only patients but also healthy people. This was stated by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev at a meeting of the government Commission on health protection of citizens.

“Despite all our efforts, the problem remains very acute. And I can say that it is the result of shortcomings at all levels. In particular, I’m talking about disruptions in the supply of drugs and test systems that allow some regions. This jeopardizes not only the lives of HIV-infected patients but also healthy people”, – said the head of the Cabinet.

According to him, there are also issues of how information activities in this field. “People should have a competent and professional information about the dangers of infection prevention. Especially because this is one of the most important factors in its prevention”, – said Medvedev. He believes it is necessary to focus on vulnerable groups of people, including drug addicts.

The number of HIV cases in Russia increases

Medvedev noted that each year the number of HIV cases in Russia increased by 10%, or 10 thousand people.

“Diseases caused by human immunodeficiency virus, is a serious global problem faced by all countries without exception. Russia also has all these problems. Each year, on average, increases by 10% the number of HIV infections (in the country). Nearly 10 thousand people, according to statistics available with the Ministry of health”, – said Medvedev.
