Lavrov: military of the Russian Federation and Jordan have agreed to coordinate the air force over Syria


VIENNA, October 23. Military of the Russian Federation and Jordan will coordinate through the working mechanism in Amman. This was stated on Friday, the Russian foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov following a meeting with Jordanian counterpart Nasser Godoy.

“Simultaneously with the political process, we are convinced of the need to dramatically step up efforts in the fight against ISIS ( terrorist group “Islamic state” – approx.TASS) and other terrorist groups in Syria – Lavrov said. – As a contribution to the solution of this task according to the agreement between President Vladimir Putin and king Abdullah II military Russia and Jordan have agreed to coordinate their actions, including the actions of the air force over Syrian territory, through the working mechanism in Amman”.

“We believe that other States involved in the fight against terrorism, can join”, – stressed the head of the Russian foreign Ministry.

To intensify efforts

Lavrov also stated that it was necessary to redouble efforts for settlement in Syria based on the Geneva communiqué. This involves the launch of fully fledged negotiations between the government and all representatives of Syrian opposition with the support of the international players, told journalists today the Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov following talks with his Jordanian counterpart Nasser Godoy.

“Our common position is that you need to dramatically step up the effort to start the political process of Syrian settlement based on the Geneva communiqué,” Lavrov said.

“This involves the launch of fully fledged negotiations between representatives of the Syrian government and all spectrums of the Syrian opposition – both internal and external – with the active support of the international community,” he explained.

The Arab-Israeli question

The head of Jordanian foreign Minister Nasser Joda stated that Jordan intends to cooperate with Russia in resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

“I hope that this new cycle of violence (on the Palestinian territories and Israel – ed.) will be the line, behind which we can begin the process subtantive peaceful negotiations in compliance, including with the Arab peace initiative,” said the Jordanian Minister.

He added that the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is a key issue of national security of Jordan. “We are in this situation – not outside observers – said Nasser Joda. – So we are here to cooperate with Russia and all other countries concerned”.
