MOSCOW, October 24. The Russian foreign Ministry hopes that the international profile structures, including the OSCE, will draw attention to the dismissive attitude of the Latvian authorities to the fundamental principles of media work. This is stated in comments published on 24 October on the website of the Russian depodesta.
On October 22 the national Council of electronic mass media of Latvia has decided to fine the Russian-language First Baltic channel over alleged “biased” coverage of the Ukrainian events.
“We expect that the neglect of Riga to the fundamental principles of mass media activities will not go unnoticed by the international specialized agencies, in particular the OSCE Representative on freedom of the media,” said the Ministry.
“The use of repressive measures against the media clearly demonstrates, which in practice are demagogic statements of the Latvian authorities on adherence to democratic values, freedom of speech and expression,” said the Russian foreign Ministry.
