Nazarbayev: Kazakhstan should develop trade ties with Qatar


The President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev at the meeting with heads of leading corporations and financial institutions of Qatar noted that the two countries are linked by historical and cultural ties.

ASTANA, 26 Oct. Kazakhstan needs to display the trade and economic relations with Qatar to a higher level, said President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev at the meeting with heads of leading corporations and financial institutions in Qatar.

Nazarbayev is in Qatar on an official visit.

During the meeting he noted that the two countries are linked by historical and cultural ties, but also pointed to the important role that Qatar plays today, not only in the region but also in the international arena as a whole. The President of Kazakhstan also stressed that Qatar “demonstrates intensive development, as evidenced by one of the world’s highest GDP per capita”.

“Nazarbayev has noticed that is not currently at the appropriate level use of the potential of mutually beneficial cooperation, and therefore it is necessary to display the trade and economic relations to a higher qualitative level”, — stated in the message the press service of the Kazakh leader.

“I am confident that direct access by rail to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas in the Persian Gulf will contribute to the growth of trade between the two countries. Today the Central Asian region has enormous potential and economic opportunities. We are ready to develop long-term and mutually beneficial partnership”, — quoted Nazarbayev’s press service.

The event was attended by Chairman of Association of businessmen of Qatar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Faisal Holding Co. Faisal bin Qassem al Thani, co-chair of the Association of businessmen of Qatar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the holding company Ezdan Holding Group Khaled bin Thani al-Thani, and the CEO of Um Haish International, Medicare-Ahli Hospital, Al Rayan Bank, Qatar International Islamic Bank, Qatar National Bank, Qatar Solar Energy, Qinvest Bank.
