Putin will discuss with representatives of special services of the CIS combat trained in Syria by militants


MOSCOW, October 28. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday will meet with the heads of delegations participating in the 39th session of the Council of heads of security bodies and special services of the States – participants of CIS in Moscow, reported the press service of the Kremlin.

“The meeting will discuss key aspects of antiterrorist activities on the territory of CIS countries and the combating of terrorist organizations and groups who had undergone training in Syria and Afghanistan”, – noted in the Kremlin. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with journalists that such meetings for the head of state have become fairly traditional.

The Council of heads of security bodies and special services of the States – participants of the CIS was established on March 28, 1997 for cooperation and coordination in the fight against international organized crime. Its meetings are held as necessary but at least twice a year, alternately in the territory of States – participants of CIS. At the 39th meeting scheduled to discuss issues of organization of cooperation in the exchange of information on threats of terrorist attacks on transport infrastructure. For consideration to be placed in the draft program of cooperation in combating terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism for the years 2017-2019.

The need to closely monitor the situation at the external borders of the CIS, Putin spoke October 16, during his visit to Kazakhstan. “It is necessary to ensure the effective work of the CIS Antiterrorist center, continue to coordinate the work of the security services, to carry out a constant exchange of information. It is especially important to closely monitor the situation at the external borders of the CIS”, – said the President of the Russian Federation at the meeting of the Council of heads of state of the Commonwealth. According to him, the CIS must be prepared in a concerted manner to counter attempts by terrorists to break into the Central Asian region.

The situation in Afghanistan then he called close to critical. “The terrorists of various stripes are gaining more and more influence and do not hide plans for further expansion. One of their goals is to break into the Central Asian region”, – said the Russian leader. “We need to be prepared to consistently respond to such a scenario,” he added.
