Chapter RGU hopes to increase the share of wheat from Russia in the import of Egypt up to 70%

The increase in the share of Russian wheat above 70% will be disadvantageous for Egypt, since in this case will decrease the level of competition between providers, said the head of the Russian grain Union Arkady Zlochevskiy.

SHARM EL SHEIKH (Egypt), 29 Oct. The share of Russian wheat?in the Egyptian imports has been increasing recently, in the future it may be increased to a historic low of 70%, said the head of the Russian grain Union (RGU) Arkady Zlochevsky.

During the International grain trading conference the Deputy head of the Egyptian national company stores Fecal Hades said that the share of wheat from Russia in the importing country is 65%. “Total consumption of wheat — 13.5 million tons. Domestic production is 5.5 million tons, the rest we import. As for wheat, it’s American, Argentinian, French, Russian, Ukrainian. Of total imports 65% of Russia”, — he told.

In turn Zlochevsky on the sidelines of the conference added that in the current agricultural year Egypt bought 2.6 million tonnes of wheat. In addition to Russian grain, 18% in the volume of purchases Romanian wheat, 13% Ukrainian, 2.6% of French. “Historically, we reached and to 70% in total Egyptian purchases. Now (share — ed.) is recovering after falling to 32.5%… Recovering our competitiveness. We hope to regain their former positions,” — said the head of the Union.

He added that the increase in the share of Russian wheat more than 70% will not be profitable for Egypt, since in this case will decrease the level of competition between suppliers.
