Health Ministry proposes to instruct the FAS to develop measures of prevention of monopolization of network pharmacies

MOSCOW, October 29. The Russian Ministry of health proposes to the government to instruct the Federal Antimonopoly service (FAS) to develop measures for the prevention of monopolization of network pharmacies.

“The increase in the number of small pharmacies has led to secondary growth in the market shares of the largest drugstore chains from 19% to 24%. According to the FAS, the high level of market concentration identified in 83% of the analysed municipalities. In this regard, we would like to ask the FAS to develop measures to prevent monopolization of a secondary network of pharmacies”, – said today at a government meeting the Minister of health Veronika Skvortsova.

According to her, in Russia the number of inhabitants on one pharmacy is 800 people, whereas in Germany – 3,9 thousand, in the UK it is 3.8 thousand, in the USA – 4,5 thousand people. “The total number of entities involved in pharmaceutical activities is in September 2015, more than 115 thousand During the last three years more than 2.5 times increased the number of state pharmacy organizations,” cited data from the Minister.
