Zheleznyak: the position of Serbia who did not support sanctions against Russia, a matter of respect

MOSCOW, October 29. Russia highly values its partnership with Serbia and with respect to the position of official Belgrade did not support EU sanctions against Russia. This was at a meeting with representatives of Democratic party of Serbia, said the Deputy Chairman of the state Duma, Deputy Secretary of General Council of “United Russia” Sergei Zheleznyak.

“Russia highly appreciates the openness and partnership in relations between countries. The independent position of Serbia, which did not support the EU decision on the introduction against Russia sanctions, causes profound respect,” – said Zheleznyak.

The position of the Serbian authorities, according to Zheleznyak, allows two States “to expand opportunities for mutually beneficial activities in various spheres that, in turn, will positively affect the socio-economic development” of Serbia and Russia.

According to Zheleznyak, Moscow and Belgrade must support a wide cooperation, including contacts of NGOs, youth organisations, Patriotic movements, to preserve their sovereignty, independence and jointly oppose attempts of separation. “It is obvious that centuries-old historical cultural and economic ties and friendship between our two Slavic peoples not to break at the whim of political opportunists become dependent on the West,” – said Zheleznyak.

At the same time, he expressed outrage at the gesture of the Kiev authorities, who expressed a note of protest to the Serbian delegation of parliamentarians and public figures in connection with their visit to the Crimea. “Such position of Kiev proves the helplessness and fragility of his regime, whose policy is the destruction of his own people in the South-East of Ukraine broke all possible international laws and may not be the policy of the civilized modern state,” says Zheleznyak.
