Medvedev: the EC wants Serbia to withdraw from the agreement on the FTA with the Russian Federation

At present between Russia and Serbia signed an agreement on free trade area, which concluded with the governments of Russia and Yugoslavia in 2000. Once Serbia prepares to join the EU, the European Commission requires to renounce the agreement with Russia, Medvedev said.

DUSHANBE, 30 Oct. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that the European Commission calls on Serbia to withdraw from the agreement on free trade concluded between the governments of Russia and Yugoslavia in 2000.

“About the impossibility to participate in two free trade zones with the European Union we spoke with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic. We have an agreement on free trade area, which concluded with the governments of Russia and Yugoslavia (28.08.2000)”, — Medvedev said at a meeting of the Council of CIS heads of government.

“Now, when Serbia is preparing to join the EU, the European Commission demands to rescind this agreement. So our concerns are fully justified,” — said Medvedev.
