The court ordered the city Council to abolish the direct election of the mayor of Krasnoyarsk


KRASNOYARSK, October 30. The Central district court of Krasnoyarsk on Friday ordered the city Council to abolish the direct election of the mayor of the regional center. Requested by the city Prosecutor’s office, reported the press service of the Supervisory authority.

“The court ordered the Krasnoyarsk city Council of deputies to bring the city Charter into conformity with the current legislation”, – stated in the message.

The Prosecutor’s office appealed to court with the statement for recognition illegal of the Charter of Krasnoyarsk, approved by the decision of Krasnoyarsk city Council from December 24, 1997. Specifies that the Charter does not correspond to certain norms of Federal and regional legislation, according to which “the heads of municipal entities in the Krasnoyarsk territory, except for some cases, the elected representative body of the municipal formation from among the candidates presented by the competitive Commission by results of competition”.

“In violation of these requirements by the Charter of the city of Krasnoyarsk lays down the procedure for the election of the mayor in municipal elections”, – the Prosecutor’s office.
