The head of FADN: subject Ossetian-Ingush conflict is not exhausted until the end

VLADIKAVKAZ, October 30. The theme of the Ossetian – Ingush conflict is not exhausted until the end, told journalists the head of Federal Agency on Affairs of nationalities Igor Barinov.

“We understand that conflict in North Ossetia no, but we are in a post-conflict situation after the tragic events two republics – Ingushetia and North Ossetia. To the end, of course, we have not closed”,- said Barinov. He noted that currently requires a great effort from the authorities of the two republics and the Agency “for this theme to be gone forever, so the Ossetians and Ingush could feel comfortable and live in peace and friendship”.

The head of North Ossetia Tamerlan Aguzarov sure that if the government decided to revive the office dealing with inter-ethnic relations, these issues will be successfully resolved.

During the meeting in Vladikavkaz, an agreement was signed between the Federal Agency on Affairs of nationalities of the Russian Federation and the government of the North Ossetia “On the implementation of joint activities on realization of state national policy in terms of ensuring the preservation and development of cultures, languages and traditions of the peoples of the Russian Federation, to strengthen their spiritual community”.

As explained by the President, under the agreement on the territory of the Republic will be launched system of monitoring inter-ethnic relations, which “will not allow “kicking the tails”, but in advance to understand the processes in the field of interethnic and interfaith relations and to help the authorities of the Republic to make clear sound decisions”.

According to Barinov, the Agency will help Finance regional programmes in the field of international relations for their success.

About the conflict

Armed clashes on the territory of Prigorodny district of North Ossetia began on the night of 30 to 31 October 1992. The conflict was terminated only after entering into a zone of confrontation between Federal troops and declaring a state of emergency. According to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, in the period from October 31 to November 5, 1992 as a result of the armed conflict between Ossetians and Ingush were killed 583 persons, including 350 Ingush and 192 Ossetians were injured 939 people – 457 Ingush and 379 Ossetian missing 261 persons, including 208 Ingush and Ossetians 37. About 60 thousand Ingush who lived in the Prigorodny district of North Ossetia, were forced to leave their homes and find refuge on the territory of Ingushetia.
