UN: the scale of corruption in the world amounts to trillions of dollars


In the developing world lost $ 40 billion as a result of corruption that can’t be spent on building schools, hospitals, improve roads, said the Executive Director of the UN office on drugs and crime Yury Fedotov.

MOSCOW, 2 Nov. The scale of corruption in the world amounts to trillions of dollars, this is a serious challenge for all countries of the world, said the Executive Director of the UN office on drugs and crime Yury Fedotov.

“The scale of corruption is many trillions of dollars. It is a serious share in the national gross product, only one example: in the developing world lost $ 40 billion as a result of corruption that can’t be spent on building schools, hospitals, improve roads, are means often used by transnational organized crime”, — he said at a briefing in the framework of the sixth session of the conference of the States parties to the UN Convention against corruption in St. Petersburg.

The conference is held every two years meeting of representatives of 177 countries that have acceded to the UN Convention against corruption. This year the conference will be held in St. Petersburg from 2 to 6 November.
