Lavrov and the Secretary General of the OIC have decided to develop the organization’s participation in the “Vienna process” on Syria


MOSCOW, November 3. The Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic cooperation (OIC) Iyad Madani during a telephone conversation agreed to work on specific aspects of the participation of the OIC in the settlement of the Syrian crisis in the framework of the “Vienna process”. “Sergei Lavrov and Iyad Madani discussed the issues of interaction between Russia and the OIC on a number of topical issues of regional and international agenda, including efforts to promote the settlement of the Syrian crisis in the framework of the “Vienna process,” he said in depodesta. – The Russian side expressed belief in the feasibility of connection to these efforts, the leadership of the OIC as an organization that unites all Muslims and all currents in the religion of Islam. It was agreed to work on specific aspects of the participation of the OIC in the “Vienna process”.

“During the meeting, Iyad Madani expressed his deep condolences in connection with the crash of the Russian airliner in Egypt, – have informed in the Russian foreign Ministry. – On behalf of all member countries of the OIC, he asked to convey words of support and sympathy to the family and friends of the victims and wished the Russian people patience and courage”.

In October in Vienna were two international meetings with the participation of Sergey Lavrov on the settlement in Syria. The first was held on October 23 in the quadripartite format with the participation of heads of the MFA of Russia, the U.S., Saudi Arabia and Turkey. For the next meeting, held in the Austrian capital a week later, on October 30, connected the countries of the region, in particular Iran. Following the talks, Sergey Lavrov said that a specific date for the next round had not yet been decided, but the meeting will be held no later than 2 weeks.
