MOSCOW, November 5. Opened in Moscow the fifth world Congress of compatriots, Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised that Russia will always protect compatriots abroad. He also assured that the government will continue supporting Russian-language press worldwide. Comprehensive support of compatriots to the Russian Federation remains a priority, said the head of state.
The number of participants grows
World Congress of compatriots held in Moscow in 2001. In the first Congress was attended by representatives of 46 countries. This year the Congress is attended by 400 delegates from 97 countries.
Russian Diaspora is one of the largest in the world, it has a population of about 30 million people. Two thirds of them live in neighboring countries, and one third abroad.
The President promised support
Russia will always protect compatriots abroad, including in Yemen, Libya and Syria, said, speaking at the fifth world Congress of compatriots, Vladimir Putin. The President emphasized that the reliable protection of citizens from any form of discrimination remains the fundamental task of Russia. Putin explained that the aim is to provide such key rights as a study of the native language, preserving cultural and spiritual traditions. “We’re staying really close to each other. I’m sure wherever you were, the historical native land will always be for you a reliable support”, – said the head of state.
“Comprehensive support of compatriots was and remains for us a priority area for joint efforts of state and public organizations. We will do everything to make this work more effective and less bureaucratic so that its proposals could make each of our compatriot, and the reaction to the problems and questions which you have posed, was as quickly as possible,” he said.
In addition, he promised that Russia will continue to support Russian-language press abroad. To do this, the Russian side plans, including, “using the capabilities established in the autumn of last year the Fund’s cooperation with foreign Russian-language media,” said Putin.
According to him, the majority of Russian-speaking mass media abroad strive to give unbiased and honest information about Russia that helps to break down prejudices of the past and “to oppose various kinds of outreach and cliches the truth about our country.”
The President of the Russian Federation stated that they have prepared the concept of development of Russian schools abroad. “The purpose of these schools is to promote domestic methods of teaching, developing teaching, promote the study of Russian language and subjects that are relevant to our country, the attitude to Russia”, – Putin said, noting that the speech, in particular, goes about such subjects as history and geography of Russia, as well as culture and art.
The President also believes that it is important step creating favorable conditions for studies of young compatriots in Russia’s universities. He recalled that in 2015 the quota for their admission to higher educational institutions of the Russian Federation has reached 15 thousand people.
Speaking about the establishment of the Russian Museum of the Russian Diaspora, Putin expressed confidence that he will be one of the best in the country. The construction of the Museum will begin soon. “It will become part of the House of Russian abroad named after Alexander Solzhenitsyn, and his collection, and technical equipment needs to be among the best museums of Russia”, – said Putin. According to him, the House of Russian abroad has already received a gift of approximately 250 thousand Museum objects, archival documents and books.
To maintain unity with the Motherland
The Congress was also attended by the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill, foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and the Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko.
The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church urged Russians, and the multimillion Russian Diaspora “to keep, as a precious gem, the unity with their historical homeland, with each other, to preserve the unity of the Church, which is always with his people both in the Fatherland and beyond its borders”. The message of the ROC abroad, “simply and consistently is to remember that we are one people of God, who builds his future allegiance and centuries-old spiritual tradition and in openness to the world,” said the Patriarch.
In turn, addressing the participants of the Congress, Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed Russia’s willingness to cooperate with anyone who builds relations on the basis of equality and mutual respect. He also recalled that “no matter what the actions of our colleagues, we will never go down the path of self-isolation, on the search for enemies.”
Russia, continued the head of the guardian, believes in the endless potential of compatriots to support development of the country and appreciates their efforts in this way. “We see and appreciate your desire to be useful to their historical homeland, to promote its advancement, confidence-building and cooperation in international Affairs”, – said Lavrov.
The speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko speaking at the forum, expressed the view that the foreign Russian world has become a global factor, which would be considered at the national and international levels. In addition, Russian compatriots abroad should strengthen our ties with Russia’s regions, “to build more reliable and durable bridges”, she said.
The head of the Federation Council also thanked the Russian compatriots abroad for “contribution to the dissemination of objective information” about Russia in countering the attempts of ill-wishers “to give out white for black”. She also drew attention to the importance of the involvement of expatriates in work on counteraction of falsification of history and lessons of the Second world war. “Our common task is preservation of historical memory and condemnation of the actions of those countries that gerasimou today the Nazis and their accomplices”, – said the head of the Federation Council.
The work continues
World Congress of compatriots will work for two days. In its framework will include plenary sessions and thematic sections, will be held “round table” on development Russian-language media abroad. On Friday, November 6, we will announce the results of the forum and the awarding ceremony of the eight compatriots of the state prizes of the Russian Federation, Honorary badges countryman and honorary diplomas of the Government Commission on compatriots living abroad.
