The European Commission Thursday demanded repayment of the financial assistance of the government of the Estonian airline Estonian Air, according to a press release from the European Commission. According to the EC decision, the company shall return the previously received funds in the amount of around 85 million euros and has rights to obtain the requested additional restructuring 40 million. The reason for this decision was the conclusion by the EC that the company has obtained an unfair advantage over competitors.

As Estonian Air is unable to repay the government subsidies in the amount of € 85 million plus interest, the EC took the decision to stop the activity of the air carrier.

According to the Prime Minister of Estonia Taavi Rõivas, now the most important thing is to give passengers the confidence and provide timely information to avoid inconveniences during the trip home or to your selected destination.

“The government has instructed the Ministry of economy in case of negative decision of the European Commission to deliver the people home and compensation for previously purchased tickets.
