Yatsenyuk: Ukraine has managed to reduce its dependence on Russian gas


According to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Kiev was able to get rid of gas oligarchs and the complete dependence on Russia in gas supplies.

KIEV, 8 Nov. Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that Ukraine managed to get rid of complete dependence on Russian gas.

“We got rid of the gas oligarchs and the complete dependence on Russia in gas supplies,” Yatseniuk said in his address to the Ukrainian people.

On Friday the head of Ministry of state Vladimir demchyshyn said that Ukraine is prepared for a possible force majeure on gas supplies from Russia, by buying more than 1 billion cubic meters of gas more than in the previous heating season.

Kiev is seeking to diversify gas imports to Ukraine. To this end, the government will reduce gas supplies from Russia by increasing imports of reverse gas from the EU.

In winter gas package, which Ukraine, Russia and the European Commission initialled on 25 September, agreed the purchase of “Naftogaz” from “Gazprom” gas credit on 500 million dollars attracted using the EC. The government of the Russian Federation provided Ukraine a discount for the fourth quarter of approximately $ 20 per thousand cubic meters. Itself the contract price is 248-252 dollars per thousand cubic meters, said energy Minister Alexander Novak.
