EC: in the interest of all parties to continue the transit of gas through Ukraine


The report will be presented on 18 November, Vice-President of the European Commission for the energy Union. It examines the issue of oil prices and new initiatives of the Russian Federation on the expansion of the infrastructure of natural gas supply to Europe.

KYIV, 9 Nov. The European Union (EU) noted the interest in to save the transit of gas to Europe through Ukraine, says the draft report of the European Commission (EC) “the State of Affairs in relation to the energy Union”.

“The EU is convinced that in the interests of all parties that Ukraine remained an important transit country”, — quotes the document, the Agency “UKRINFORM” on Monday.

In addition, the report among the problems that affect the energy sector, there is a conflict between Russia and Ukraine, falling oil prices, new initiatives of the Russian Federation on the expansion of the infrastructure of natural gas supply to Europe and new perspectives after reaching agreements on the nuclear issue of Iran.

“The EU actively supports the efforts of the leadership of Ukraine and “Naftogaz” to carry out reforms,” added the European Commission.

The report will be presented on 18 November, Vice-President of the European Commission for energy Union Maroš Šefčovič, the EU Council, the European Parliament, the EU Committee of the regions, socio-economic Committee of the EU.

Company “Naftogaz of Ukraine” predicts drop in 2015 the volume of Russian gas transit through Ukraine by 20% — to 50 billion cubic meters 62.2 billion cubic meters in 2014. In this case, the transit through Ukraine in 2014 decreased by almost 25% — of 86.1 billion cubic meters in 2013 to 62.2 billion cubic meters in 2014.
