“Mail of Russia” plans to make appropriate proposals to the government for consideration in early 2016.

MOSCOW, 9 Nov. “Russian post” proposes to legislate the requirement for marking of all written mail radiodetermination labels (RFID-labels), says the company.

It is necessary to equip all nodes sorting “Mail” equipment for reading RFID tags.

The introduction of RFID will lead to increased targets for the delivery of mail will allow to reduce losses of postal items, to avoid the use of postal channels for sending illegal shipments and will be an effective way of dealing with the “gray” mail, the back of which reaches 7 billion annually, according to the materials of “Mail”.

As explained in the press service of “mail of Russia”, the company intends to make appropriate proposals to the government for consideration in early 2016. Now the cost of RFID tags is about 4.5 per ruble, but with mass production it may be reduced to 3 rubles, said the press service. Annual volume of domestic letter-post is about 1.5 billion pieces.

“Mail” in the summer of 2014 has signed an agreement with RUSNANO on the implementation of RFID technology for international shipments. In 2014, RFID equipment were equipped with 12 postal facilities established transfer the received data to the system of the UPU International Bureau, organized by the national monitoring centre. Thanks to this innovation “Mail of Russia” had an opportunity to strengthen the control of incoming correspondence at all stages of delivery. In the summer of 2015, the parties agreed to the incorporation of 15 items-mail exchange.
