RF MFA: Kosovo cannot qualify for membership in international organizations


MOSCOW, 9 November. The vote in UNESCO confirmed the prematurity of the intention of Pristina to become an independent member of the organization, said the foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation.

“Passing these days in Paris the 38th session of the UNESCO General conference in plenary meeting examined initiated by Albania and supported by other countries, the draft decision on the admission of Kosovo to membership in the organization, – have reminded in the Ministry. – After a long debate that revealed significant differences of member countries on this issue, a vote was held, which confirmed the prematurity of the intention of Pristina to become an independent member of UNESCO”.

“As a result of the vote, the supporters of the acceptance of Kosovo failed to gain the required two-thirds votes, while against this decision voted 50 States, said in depodesta. Thus, the UNESCO General conference reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of international law enshrined in the Security Council resolution 1244, which remains in full force and effect”.

“Kosovo, while under UN administration, cannot be regarded as a state, with legal personality and therefore qualify for membership in international organizations”, – stressed the foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation.
