Volkswagen will conduct a major overhaul of the 540 thousand diesel engines

Moscow. November 9. German automaker Volkswagen (VW) will significantly modify diesel engines to approximately 540 thousand cars to be withdrawn in Germany because of exceeding the permissible emissions of harmful substances, reports Bloomberg.

On recalled cars has been installed software that translates the motor in the most environmentally-friendly mode of operation during the test, whereas in normal operation the emissions of substances in tens times exceeded admissible norm. In these cases, simply removing the program will not be enough, and VW will need to make significant modifications to the engines.

Earlier, sources in the company said that the cases of understating actual performance can meet not only diesel vehicles, but in cars with conventional engines.

Reports of new violations, increase potential damages from VW for their elimination. The firm’s representatives have already stated that previously allocated 8.7 billion euros is not enough for complete elimination of the consequences of the scandal.

Against this background, the international rating Agency Fitch on Monday lowered the long-term credit rating of the German company with “A” to “BBB+”.

On Monday, the management of VW will launch a 10-day negotiations with the trade Union leaders in order to discuss plans to reduce costs. The Kret CEO Matthias Mueller stated that when making decisions about reducing the investment “we have to take into account both profits and the situation at the workplace”.
