MOSCOW, November 12. Terrorist activity in Russia over the past five years has fallen by more than 10 times. This was stated by Deputy head of the Main Directorate on countering extremism (GUPE) the Ministry of internal Affairs Vladimir Makarov.
“Assessing the crime situation we can say that extremism in General is a particular threat. Any of its forms, from xenophobia to separatism, not only threatening national security but also lead to instability in the society”, – said Makarov. According to him, “in our country there is a whole range of extremist and terrorist threats”. “Thanks to the measures we have contained the situation”, – said the Deputy head of HOPE the Ministry of internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
According to the Agency, for 10 months in Russia registered 1 615 thousand crimes of a terrorist nature. “However, according to the National anti-terrorist Committee, the number of crimes of terrorist orientation on the 1st of October this year compared with the same period last year decreased by 2.3 times. Not admitted any act of terrorism,” – said Makarov.
He stressed that it was also significantly decreased terrorist activity in the North Caucasus. “Over a five-year period of terrorist activity in the region fell by more than 10 times. Significantly reduced the number of casualties in the North Caucasus, indicating a stabilization of the situation”, – said the Deputy head of the Ministry of internal Affairs HOPE.
