KRASNOYARSK, November 13. Deputies of the Krasnoyarsk city Council at a special session voted for the abolition of elections of the mayor of Krasnoyarsk. This decision obliged them to take the court at the request of the public Prosecutor of edge.
For the abolition of direct elections of the mayor of the regional center voted 33 out of 34 members.
Deputies of the Krasnoyarsk city Council twice voted to amend the Charter, but both times voters was not enough. As a result, the Prosecutor’s office asked the court in late October ordered the city Council to bring city Charter into compliance with applicable law and cancel elections of the mayor.
According to the Prosecutor, the former version of the city Charter, approved by the decision of Krasnoyarsk city Council from December 24, 1997, did not correspond to certain norms of Federal and regional legislation, according to which, the heads of municipal entities in the Krasnoyarsk territory should be elected among candidates selected by competition.
