Putin: the US decision to supply weapons to Ukraine could provoke the aggravation of the situation

MOSCOW, November 13. Decision on arms supplies to Ukraine could provoke a new aggravation of the situation in the South-East of the country.

This opinion was expressed by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in interview to news agencies “Interfax” and “Anadolu”.

“At a time when the fighting ceased and the firing of a single character, it is unclear why the U.S. Congress makes decisions that make possible the supply of lethal weapons Ukraine”, – he said. “There is a question – don’t you want to rekindle the war and to provoke military action,” Putin added.

The President drew attention to the fact that “now, when finally managed to establish a truce in the region, it is important that the parties to the conflict began to work together to find common ground, move to a common denominator”. “It is necessary that they learn to listen and hear each other,” he said. “This will depend on compromise solutions”, – said the head of state.

Kiev’s policy leads to the transformation of the situation in frozen conflict

Kiev’s policy may result in the normalization of the situation in the Donbas into a frozen conflict, Putin said. “There remains the risk of turning the Donbas into a frozen conflict, he said. – It is the policy of Kiev, which continues to strengthen the blockade of the South-East, does not start there nor food, nor money, dismantled the banking system, blocked the export”.

“Russia, for its part, continues to support the Donbass, which was in a difficult humanitarian situation,” the President said. He reminded that since August 2014 there was over 50 thousand tons of humanitarian cargo. “We think first and foremost about people, which the Kiev authorities abandoned to their fate, forced to the brink of survival… it is Our duty to render them all necessary assistance”, – said Putin.

About the Minsk agreements

The President has urged not to dramatize the situation with the tightening of terms of performance of the Minsk agreements. “Wouldn’t over-dramatize the situation with delaying the execution of the Minsk agreements”, – he said. “Despite some difficulties, they are being implemented, and importantly, the provisions, principles and logic of the document is not being questioned; it is only about technical prolongation of time,” the President said.

“The postponement of local elections in Donetsk and Luhansk for the next year is a forced measure,” – said Putin. “This year would be possible if Kiev clearly fulfill the Minsk agreement of 12 February and agreed on with the DPR and LPR issues of organization of elections and has enacted the law “On special status of Donbass” in its original form,” he said.
