Russia has grounds to ban flights EgyptAir, note in SF

Rosaviatsia has sent a telegram banning from the November 14 flight EgyptAir in Russia. Egypt has a right to expect objective explanation for this decision, said Deputy Chairman of Committee of Federation Council on economic policy Sergey Shatirov.

MOSCOW, 13 Nov. Taking the decision to ban flights to Russia EgyptAir, Federal air transport Agency had sufficient grounds for this, however, Egypt has the right to expect clarification of this step, noted in the Council of the Federation.

Earlier Friday, a source reported that the Federal air transport Agency sent a telegram banning from the November 14 flight EgyptAir in Russia. This information was confirmed by the representative of the Moscow Domodedovo airport, where the Egyptian carrier operates flights from Cairo.

The flights of Russian aircraft in Egypt were suspended on 6 November to ascertain the causes of the crash of the Russian airliner A321 over Sinai, which killed 224 people.

“Taking such decisions relating, in particular, to relations with other countries, they are productive, balanced and based on relevant data,” — said the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on economic policy Sergey Shatirov.

Thus, he noted, it can be concluded that Rosaviatsia had reason to ban flights of an Egyptian airline. “Of course, national security is a priority for any country”, — said the Senator.

However, according to Shatirova, Egypt has the right to expect objective explanation for this decision. “I think that our partners in Egypt taking into consideration that the Russian side has good reasons to ban flights, and with the understanding that decision. But clarification must be given objective, we have to wait,” he said.

The Deputy Chairman of the economic Committee of the Federation Council also urged “not to make premature conclusions” from the situation.

Resentment towards

First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on defense and security Frants Klintsevich agreed with the opinion of his colleague, noting that “such a serious decision is equally serious reasons”.

“After the crash of our plane to Egypt was urgently sent a group of Russian experts, which, together with the Egyptians in the place studied problems of aviation security. Apparently, the findings were disappointing,” he said.

It would be foolish to deny that the ban of the Egyptian airline EgyptAir is the only carrier between Russia and Egypt — to operate flights on route from Cairo to Moscow one way or another will not affect relations between the two countries, the Senator noted. “But we had no other choice. The interests of the safety of people above all”, — said the politician.

Moreover, this decision, and Russia didn’t come easy, he added. “So all the insults in the direction. They simply do not have time. We must ensure higher level than now, the cooperation between our countries in the fight against the terrorist threat. This is the surest way for an early resumption of flights”, — said the Klintsevich.
