Sands: Putin will meet with the head of the IMF on the sidelines of the G20 summit

SOCHI, November 13. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin will meet with the head of the IMF Christine Lagarde on the sidelines of the summit “group of twenty”. About it has informed journalists a press-Secretary of Russian leader Dmitry Peskov.

“With Lagarde meeting is planned,” – said the representative of the Kremlin, answering the question. However, he declined to comment on whether the meeting discussed the issue of debt Kiev before the Russian $3 billion, which pay off Ukraine in December 2015.

As for the prospects that Russia may declare the default on this debt in the event of non-payment, Peskov said: “this is about sovereign debt. The failure to pay would mean default situation.”

The debt of Ukraine to the Russian Federation

Moscow and Kiev failed to agree on the fate of the loan Ukraine $3 billion, which was issued in December 2013. Kiev insisted on the recognition of its business and, accordingly, a 20 percent write-off and restructuring. Russia insists on the official status of the debt and the full repayment in December 2015.

The heads of Finance of the Russian Federation and of Ukraine Anton Siluanov and Natalia Jaresko had only one meeting on the debt issue, which was held in mid October in the capital of Peru in the framework of the annual meetings of the IMF and the world Bank.

The two sides reiterated their positions, but they failed to agree. The Russian Finance Ministry in the case of non-payment by Kiev’s debt in December, intends to apply to the international court.
