Media: the decision on payment of Russia’s contribution to the European Council will take in December

MOSCOW, Nov 17. The final decision on the payment of dues to the Council of Europe will be accepted until mid-December, it is possible that the amount will be divided into several parts due to the complex relations with the PACE, told the newspaper “Izvestia” state Duma Committee on international Affairs.

Pushkov, in conversation with the newspaper also noted that the situation in PACE began to change in favor of Russia. According to the Deputy, it is connected with the end of tenure as President of the PACE Anne Brasseur, on which was the most conflicted period in the relations of Russia with the PACE.

“As the PACE President will be the representative of the European people’s party. In turn the Chairman of Committee of the Federation Council international Affairs Andrey Klimov told the newspaper that, in his opinion, the prospects of a return to the work of the Russian delegation to PACE a bit, but Russia still has financial obligations to the Council of Europe and must be performed.

Sanctions against the Russian delegation to PACE were introduced in April last year because of Moscow’s position on Ukraine and the Crimea and were renewed in January 2015. The head of the Russian delegation Alexei Pushkov said that until the end of 2015, Russia remains a member of the Council of Europe: the contributions already paid.
