The President of Vietnam: the Asia-Pacific region face serious challenges


Vietnamese President Truong tan sang said the preservation challenges of overcoming poverty, noted that countries in the region face the problems of climate change, rapid urbanization, food and energy security.

MANILA, Nov 17. The economies of the Asia-Pacific region, playing the role of the driver of global economic growth, continue to face serious challenges, according to President of Vietnam Truong tan sang.

“A series of agreements on zones of free trade has acquired a new meaning, enabling the Asia-Pacific region to play a role as a driver for global economic growth. The APEC forum has become a pioneer in promoting sustainable development,” said Truong tan sang at the plenary session of the APEC summit.

According to him, the Asia-Pacific region continues to face serious challenges, “development goes along with many destabilizing factors”. The President of Vietnam said the preservation challenges of overcoming poverty, noted that countries in the region face the problems of climate change, rapid urbanization, food and energy security.

As stated by the Vietnamese leader, sustainable development of the region should be accompanied by steps to overcome poverty, which will reduce the gap between different economies. According to him, it is also necessary to introduce a sustainable system of social protection, focusing on the most vulnerable groups.

“Special attention should also be given to infrastructure projects that will bring together economy and reducing the gap in development of different economies in APEC and in ASEAN,” added Truong tan sang.

The Asia-Pacific summit held in the Philippine capital of Manila from 17 to 19 November. The Russian side at the summit will be Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.
