The government appreciated the likelihood of new solutions to support airlines

Moscow. November 19. The government will likely have to make decisions about the support of Russian air carriers, said Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev at a press conference following the APEC summit on Thursday.

“Our airlines are experiencing hard times due to the bankruptcy of “Transaero” and because of the problem of terrorism. We looked at the meeting that I had, the support of the air carriers. In all likelihood, we’ll have some decisions to make,” said the head of government.

According to him, he remembers a time when the aviation industry was one of the “Aeroflot”.

“I’m not sure it was the perfect model because when there is nobody to compete is not good. I would like to note that air transport is a rather specific type of business. Many States have one carrier. I would of course like to see our air transport market had several alternative carriers who might such services to provide to our people,” said Medevedev.

He recalled that after the bankruptcy of “Transaero” a significant part of the international routes of the carrier was transferred to “Aeroflot”.

As previously reported, the second on volume of transportations airline of Russia “Transaero” because of financial problems was discontinued on 26 October operator certificate was cancelled.
