The IMF expressed the hope that direct talks between Moscow and Kiev on restructuring


Moscow. November 19. The international monetary Fund expects Russia and Ukraine will enter into direct negotiations for the restructuring of Eurobonds for $3 billion, to be repaid the end of December 2015.

“During the recent meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and managing Director of the IMF Christine Lagarde, the Russian side briefed on the proposal in the framework of the Fund (program eff EFF) to alleviate debt and financial situation in Ukraine. As we have said, we expect that the authorities of Russia and Ukraine will discuss this issue directly,” – said the Agency “Interfax-Ukraine” the press service of IMF.

The Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday that Russia has offered to restructure the debt of Ukraine for three years is better conditions than offered by the IMF.

“We were asked to move the payment for the next year. I said that we are ready to go deeper restructuring: ready to go to this year did not get any money and next year get a billion, in the 17th – and another billion in the 18th – billion”, – Putin said. He also noted that the IMF tried to persuade Russia to postpone payment on debt of Ukraine for 2016.

The Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation Anton Siluanov said Wednesday that Russia is ready to discuss directly with Ukraine proposals on the restructuring of Eurobonds. “We have sent their proposals to the international monetary Fund, as IMF makes the program of assistance to Ukraine, since we are talking about restructuring, additional funding must be resolved through the program, through the Fund’s shareholders. Therefore, the Finance Ministry discussed this issue with key shareholders of the Fund and submitted a formal proposal to the IMF. I personally wrote a letter to Mrs. Lagarde. They said that they will learn”, – he said to journalists.
